Last month we reached out to one of the dev's working on the new update to Darkest Hour 1.06. On Paradox Forum he is called ^_AC_^
Anything planned for optimization/stability? I personally have no stability issues but seems to be an issue for some..
Well, we're always working on improving the game and that includes both optimization and stability improvements. For example, in patch 1.06, we already addressed a few very specific edge cases that previously could lead to crashes. Moreover, during our most recent tests and playthroughs, we have observed that the game is running more stable and smoothly than ever before.
I can see that the update mostly relates to events and decisions, but are there any plans for any graphical changes?
The previous Development Diary focused primarily on events and decisions, but that's not the only focus of the upcoming patch. We're always striving to enhance all aspects of the game and that includes graphical improvements as well. In the next Development Diary, we will be reveal a few enhancements in this area of the game. We hope that players will appreciate the new improvements that we are going to release with patch 1.06
How do you decide what updates to do? Do you have a priority system?
We have a lot of ideas on how to improve the game and we always listen to feedback and suggestions from our community. However, this naturally leads to an extensive list of tasks. Prioritization is essential in managing such a situation effectively. Moreover, we sometimes realize that something we're working on could synergize well with a task that initially had a lower priority. In these cases, we might re-evaluate and adjust the order of our task list to take advantage of the potential synergy between different improvements. I believe the next Development Diary, which, as I mentioned, will focus on technology, contains an examples of this approach. In the upcoming patch we introduced a few enhancements that work very well together. As we were working on these improvements, we recognized their potential synergy and subsequently re-arranged our priorities to take advantage of this. And that's why we can have a Development Diary focused on a specific aspect of the game.
Apart from what you read in developer diary number 35 for patch 1.06, what do you have else planned for this part?
Unfortunately, we can't reveal any new specific additions yet, but we are committed to improving Darkest Hour and appreciate the patience of our players as we continue our development efforts. The next developer's diary is scheduled to be released before the end of the summer, provided everything goes according to plan. However, that might not be the last DD before the release of the patch.
Will new technologies be added?
As of now, we haven't planned the addition of any new technologies. However, I do have something to share. The next Development Diary will primarily focus on technology, so you can expect a few interesting changes. While these updates may not be groundbreaking, we believe the players will appreciate the improvements and enhancements we have made.
Will it expand and connect the years from 1920 to 1933?
No, so far we don't have any plans in that direction. As of now, our focus remains on improving and refining the existing scenarios.
Add content to more small countries such as Danzig?
At this time, we have added no new content specifically for Danzig and there are no plans for that country. Dev Diary 35 already provided a preview of many new events and decisions that will be included in patch 1.0.6, featuring content related to post-colonial nations like Laos and Syria. This means we do have some new content for smaller countries. However, there isn't a particular small country that has received more attention than the others.
And will this be the last update or do you have something else planned for the future?
Well, as they say, never say never, but we are not making any promises at this time. Let's get this patch out first and then we will see. However, I can reveal that we have decided to postpone some of our new ideas until after the release of patch 1.0.6. Given the extensive scope of this patch, we want to ensure that it remains manageable and delivers a polished experience. By postponing some of ideas we have, we can concentrate on perfecting the current update and avoid overwhelming it with too many changes.
Many thanks to AC for answering our questions. And we are very much looking forward to the new update!
